NEW - Economic Stimulus Guide for the Navajo Nation.  This guide contains project and grant information along with a contact list of key Federal personnel.

The Economic Stimulus or the American and Investment and Recovery Act of 2009 (ARRA) contains many provisions accessible to tribal governments or designated tribal entities.

The American and Investment and Recovery Act of 2009 totals $787.2 billion dollars in recovery spending.

Funding information is being communicated through Recovery.gov and through Federal Register listings, we will post pertinent listings in our federal register section under news.  Additionally, each agency has been mandated by U.S. OMB to maintain an individual recovery area on their page in the format of www.agency.gov/recovery (example: www.doi.gov/recovery) on which each agency will be posting announcements.  Additionally, grants.gov has set up a individual ARRA section which can be accessed here.

Spending can be categorized as:

Tax Relief
State & Local Fiscal Relief
Infrastructure & Science
Protecting the vulnerable
Healthcare
Education & Training
Energy
Other
$288 Billion$144 Billion
$111 Billion
$81 Billion$59 Billion
$53 Billion
$43 Billion
$8 Billion

Of the total $787.2 billion approx $2.5 billion was specifically set aside for tribal programs. The total amount of strict Indian Country specific set aside is less than 1% of the entire stimulus spending.  Much of the funding will be a competitive based grant process while others will be distributed on a formula format, loans, bonds, and or tax credits. The formula distribution rests upon established formulas that are used for distribution of 'regular' fiscal year dollars.

The Navajo Nation can expect to receive funding through both the formulation processes currently in place as well as under application and grant processes.  The Navajo Nation Washington Office is working with a core team to disseminate information to appropriate Navajo Nation Divisions and Oversight Committees.
